You Love Your Craft. The Business? Meh.
You didn’t get into performing to be another pretty face.
You perform because you live to create.
It comes straight from your heart. You feel present. Alive. Free. You’re serious about your craft and are in it to be an artist, not just a celebrity.
The daily grind? Not so great.
Audition after audition, waiting room filled with 10+ other actors who look just like you. Walk in, smile, say your line, hope the casting director isn’t sleeping. Afterwards, you can’t stop thinking about it. You wait for a call that never comes. You go over and over it in your mind.
What could I have done differently?
Is it my nose? Hips? Height?
Am I a crappy actor?
Maybe my mom/dad/teacher/friend is right.
I should quit and get a “real” job.
All this stress, just for another toothpaste commercial.
It wears you down.
The constant rejection. Subjecting your most vulnerable self to critique. The constant image management and competition. The zillions of factors that are out of your control. It all builds up until the joy that you used to experience performing has been sucked right out of you. You try classes to get it back, but every bit of feedback cuts you like a knife. Deep down, you fear that you’re not good enough.
You’ll never be good enough.
It all starts to feel too hard. Then the passion, love, and creativity shrivel up and die. The thing that used to bring you joy only brings you anxiety and tears.
It doesn’t have to be that way. The stress, the insecurity, the fears. The loss of passion, creativity, and joy.
You can have it back!
In fact, you can have it back and then some!
You can have more
than you ever imagined.
Not just in your performance, but also in your life!
As a former professional actor/singer, I get the passion and fiery love that you must have if you’re a performer. I see your creative spirit and courageous heart. I know firsthand the struggles of being an artist:
- Constant critique
- Inevitable rejection
- The vulnerability of putting your sensitive self on display
As a licensed therapist who has also done a lot of my own psychological and spiritual work, I have experienced firsthand how our mental and energetic blocks build up and get in the way of enjoying our work, our lives, and our creativity. And I know that if you have the tools and support to help you move through, you’ll discover that what you thought was getting in the way becomes your greatest gift. It leads to more ease, joy, and creativity than you ever imagined.
